Here is an inspiring podcast I heard today of writer Elizabeth Gilbert (author of Eat, Pray, Love) talking about the creative muse. Full of gems not to miss, this podcast is a treasure trove of great ideas. References to musician Tom Waits abound. Listen to hear her story of interpreting the muse as something internal to actually thinking of it externally, like a person or a force of nature to be coaxed and respected. It’s her way of freeing any kind of writer’s block. (her segment begins in this podcast at 3:40 but give the setup of Oliver Sacks the three and a half minutes he deserves and listen to this whole piece.) For anyone who puts emphasis on living creatively, this podcast brings much food for thought. Perhaps I can be more productive by externalizing my muse? I want to try it. Let me know what you think!
